Kara Zimmerman

My name is Kara Zimmerman and I am a former professional ballet dancer with a 20 year professional performing career, including 6 seasons here in Chicago with the Joffrey Ballet. I am newer to world of photography, but since I am not performing regularly any longer, and am now mostly teaching, I was really missing a creative outlet. I have found photography to be a wonderful new and fun way to express myself. I love being creative and artistic through my lens, and also with the editing process, to showcase places and things we may see on a regular basis, but perhaps allow you to now see them from a different perspective. I love to photograph beautiful places around the city, and places on my travels. I enjoy playing with reflections, shadows, angles, shutter speed and color to have the viewer stop and take a moment to figure out what they seeing and where the photo was taken. Photography brings me into the present moment while out on my photo walks and allows me to see the world through an artistic eye, and I hope to bring that to the viewer as well. I never know what I'll see while I'm out photographing and my photos are never planned. It is only when I see something unique or that catches my eye that I will stop to take photos. As most of my photographs are taken outside with the ever changing elements, these moments can never be recreated and are truly a special snapshot in time.
