After more than two decades working in California’s fashion industry, Allison Engel returned to her West Michigan roots to open a gallery space in Saugatuck, MI that reflects her lifelong love of storytelling through art and objects. Dune Gallery specializes in unique found objects as well as vintage and contemporary works of art that celebrate character and craftsmanship.
Allison recently rediscovered a childhood hobby that soon transformed into her signature artistic practice: hand embroidery. Working with found fabrics, all framed in antique frames collected throughout her travels. At the center of every artwork is “Jerry, a mischievous little cowboy who has become her unmistakable muse and recurring character.
Each piece is paired with a witty, cheeky title that matches the spirit of her imagery — bringing a smile to the collector’s face.
Combining reclaimed materials, personal history, and spirited humor, Allison’s practice embodies the very essence of sustainable art: giving new life to forgotten objects while creating something entirely fresh and original.
