But I do not paint them for their loveliness as much as for their stories. Women cannot be restricted to the role of muse when we have so much more to offer than sitting prettily in a gilded cage. We look up to the aerialist dancers who hold themselves onto silks with such grace and strength, and we look down to find sea animals doing a dance of their own, swimming around each other in playful joy and sweet solidarity. It’s all around us, isn’t it? This is also a subtle nod to the stunning Chicago we live in. The four red silks against the blue of the water signify the city’s flag, and the title, while appropriate for the subject, is one of the most signature summer attractions Chicago has to offer.
