Tuff Kookooshka
Outerwear made from Recycled Textiles
Kookooshka Studio is a zero-waste studio devoted to crafting sustainable, one-of-a-kind wearable art using only post-consumer textiles. I start by sourcing vintage materials such as quilts, needlepoints, cross stitches, canvas bags, and denim — giving new purpose to fabrics that would otherwise end up in landfills. Each garment is thoughtfully made through techniques like patchworking, eco-dyeing, sashiko stitching, hand embroidery, and creative patching, infusing every piece with texture and visual intrigue. I love adding whimsical details, including playful surprises and puns, ensuring every creation is special. Inspired by the natural beauty of Maine and my Russian folk-art background, my designs blend artistic heritage with environmental responsibility. Every garment is constructed to be functional, durable, and intended to be cherished and passed down, promoting a cycle of sustainability and meaningful connection among family and friends.
