I received a Master's in Architecture at Kent State University, after studying design abroad in Florence, Italy for six months. This degree pushed me to think outside of the box, digitally and physically. This allowed me to draw and render models, some of which I later built for presentation. I also constructed my own foam cutter during the model-building process, using a dimmer switch transformer and guitar string. I have worked with prominent design firms in the Cleveland area on large-scale commercial projects with up-and-coming companies (restaurants, fitness centers, pop up shops, etc). Operating as part of a design team that worked closely with the developer and construction teams, I helped keep the ball rolling, as well as address any issues that would detain the project. During the model-building phase of projects, I began to use laser engravers, and soon used my hand-drawn and digital drafting skills to create SWORKS, an industrial aesthetic and design business on my own. I enjoy breaking an idea down to its simplest parts, then designing a unique or unorthodox way to make it anew. My work is 3D, but I sketch, draw, and design in 2D. Each piece is laser-cut flat, and I determine which axis that piece will land on. Using a laser cutter, as well as utilizing a monochromatic color scheme, gives each piece a solid industrial chic aesthetic that pairs with my patterns and designs. Inspiration comes from everywhere, and my work continues to evolve as the design and construction methods adapt to what each piece requires. Some items are functional, others make a statement. But they're all SWORKS.
