A self-taught artist, Danilo Cuevas left a career in public policy to pursue art full time in 2005. Though initially frightened to take that leap of faith, he never looked back. His work has since expanded from original oil paintings into greeting cards, paper goods, and a variety of home décor accents, including ornaments, pillows, and textiles.
Each day, Cuevas begins his studio practice by putting on a mix of his favorite jazz albums and painting the images in his imagination. “I don’t feel my life needs to be dark and melancholy in order to create art; I truly enjoy painting cheerful subjects,” he says, reflecting the optimistic spirit that defines his work.
