Jeffrey LiaBraaten’s ordered abstractions celebrate the dynamic interactions of color and shape in two-dimensional space with a nod to the Minimalist and Hard Edge Art ideas from the 1960s and 70s. He finds inspiration in the natural forces and processes in nature like attraction, variation, mutation, repetition, growth, and the like. “I want my paintings to inspire thought, to be elegantly crafted and interesting to experience. Art is for everyone. I invite viewers to ask questions and be inquisitive.“
Jeffrey grew up in northern Minnesota then moved to the Washington, DC area for 30+ years before moving back to the Midwest. He holds bachelor’s degrees in piano performance (Concordia College, Moorhead, MN) and interior design (U. of Maryland, College Park). He lives and paints here in Chicago with his husband of 35 years and their 2 beagles. In addition to painting, Jeffrey is an avid runner and loves to travel.
