Artist by dusk, mortgage banker by dawn, Jason Accola is an avid art collector and a formally trained artist. A graduate of the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Jason also received a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship to Oxford University in Oxford, England where he sharpened his focus on contemporary art. Jason largely draws from his childhood psyche, which was heavily influenced by pop culture, history, cinema, music, comedy and especially MTV. He also employs his training as an art historian to tie elements of old and contemporary masterworks that have drawn his eye and shaped his path. Structuring each piece, Jason seeks to incorporate methods of negative space, mixed media, depth and diagonals, and strives to juxtaposition images that evoke thought and conversation. Each work has its own story, many humorous, and Jason enjoys sharing these stories with the viewer. A resident of the Lakeshore East community of Chicago, Jason aspires to visually challenge the viewer. He is a firm believer that the avant-garde changes human thought by pushing against the boundaries of comfort and normality. Following two individual recent over-capacity shows, Jason is excited to participate as an Emerging Artist at the Chicago Spring One of a Kind Show.
