I began my apprenticeship to become a Goldsmith at 17 under a very talented Goldsmith who enjoyed telling me “there’s nothing new under the sun”. Meaning someone at some time has already tried all of my ideas before. What a great challenge. I have spent nearly 45 years finding ways to disprove that notion. I primarily hand fabricate and cast in 14k /18k and sterling silver (mostly oxidized) and primarily bezel set the fine gemstones. My designs are always focused on the gemstone. I strive to create clever ways to wear beautiful stones often creating a dynamic tension between the colors, shapes and textures of gemstones and precious metals. I use many ancient techniques in concert with some innovations of my own to create timeless pieces that will be cherished by the wearer and fought over by her heirs. What I have learned along the 40 plus years of making jewelry is way a piece lays on the wrist, hangs from an ear or stays upright on a finger is everything. The shaping of my cuffs so the don’t roll along with 5 sizes also the unique finger shape of all my rings are some thoughtful details to design.
