Painting, New to One of a Kind
Doug Robinson Art
Acrylic, pastel and conte paintings
Canadian Abstract Artist Douglas Robinson
Born in Vancouver, BC and raised in Toronto, ON, I formally began painting at the age of 10 while enrolled in painting classes at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Receiving an Honours in Art, I attended OCADU to study Communications & Design. This led to a vibrant career in Advertising as Art Director / Chief Creative Officer at a number of Canada’s most awarded Ad Agencies.
Returning to painting full time, you can find my work in galleries and shows/exhibitions across Canada. I work between my two studios in Nobleton & Muskoka doing commission work or preparing for the next big exhibition or show.
My paintings are visual stories informed and inspired by my life experiences. My art is intuitive, with multiple layers covered and revealed, with colours and contrast supporting each brush stroke. The palette knife creates a sense of motion and rawness. I loved how abstract art can engage the mind on a deep level. It has the power to communicate wordlessly and provoke our emotions.
I’ve always been drawn to Abstraction and its imaginative gateway. My art is open to interpretation, and that is one of the beautiful things about it.
