Sumiyo Toribe Art

Sumiyo Toribe is a Japanese-American artist whose expressive watercolor paintings celebrate the beauty, energy, and changing rhythms of nature. Born in Kyoto, Japan, she moved to the United States at age sixteen and later earned her MFA in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design. After nearly twenty years of teaching art at the college level, she became a full-time artist in 2014. Her paintings combine traditional watercolor techniques with expressive brushwork and a subtle Japanese aesthetic. Through color, movement, and atmospheric light, she seeks to create a sense of joy, calm, and connection with nature.
