Renée Boynton

Born and raised in the California Bay Area and now residing in Minnesota, Renée is a realism figurative artist who explores natural abstraction by drawing figures and florals together in a unique perspective. With a BA in Art from Southern Oregon University, Renée credits her years of dancing and adoration for all matter of artistic expression (from noir film, to burlesque, to live music & beyond) with her fascination of the human form, its movement in space, and the way light and perspective have the ability to highlight, transform, and abstract the world around us. Renée strives to highlight these intricacies within her drawings, as she embraces the art of noticing details and moves with mindful presence in her daily life.

Renée uses charcoal, pastel, graphite & watercolor to highlight the value of presence and the life/death cycle of all things in her work — adorning dying and “imperfect” florals to bending, twisting, kinetic bodies. Her drawings of skulls with florals point to past and present, with creatures and humans alike being meshed with florals found where the animals once flourished. Emotional, sensual, and real, she draws beautiful bodies in all shapes, sizes, genders, & sexual orientations in a new and engaging way.
