Vibrant abstract art inspiring joy
After spending the first decade of her career in marketing, merchandising, and fashion design, Lizzie Selle turned to abstract painting as part of a deeply personal healing journey. A high-speed car accident in 2019 left her with a traumatic brain injury and chronic migraines, reshaping both her life and her creative practice. Through bold color, layered texture, and gestural movement, Lizzie creates work that seeks joy even in the midst of challenge.
Her paintings are rooted in lived experience — motherhood, chronic pain, entrepreneurship, and womanhood — and explore the tension between discomfort and optimism. Each piece becomes a visual meditation on resilience, transformation, and the beauty that can emerge from difficult seasons. With a focus on expressive mark-making and vibrant palettes, Lizzie’s work invites viewers to slow down, feel, and reconnect with moments of lightness, joy and hope.
One such lived experience came in the spring of 2025, when Lizzie’s family faced an unimaginable challenge as her three-year-old daughter, Avery, was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent successful brain surgery. This season of fear, courage, and profound gratitude became the foundation for Lizzie’s 2025 BrAvery Collection. The series honors her daughter’s extraordinary strength and resilience, while also reflecting the power of community that surrounded and supported their family.
Lizzie is the founder of Lizzie Selle Studio and The West End Gallery in La Grange, Illinois. Since opening the gallery in March 2023, she has created a welcoming, home-like space that showcases her original work alongside pieces by other local artists. Driven by a belief that art is a powerful tool for connection and emotional expression, Lizzie has cultivated a thriving creative hub that champions community, collaboration, and accessibility to original art.
Through her studio practice and gallery leadership, Lizzie continues to build meaningful relationships between artists and collectors, helping others discover how art can bring joy, color, and story into everyday spaces. Her work is not only a reflection of her own journey, but an open invitation for others to find beauty, movement, and resilience within their own.
