Barb Beckman Art Glass

This fused glass painting is formed from sheet glass, crushed glass and flame-bent stringers. There are quite literally hundreds of stringers that make up the field of wheat. Light glistens through the many layers because of the mirror behind it. It was fired four times at different temperatures to achieve a depth and texture that could not be achieved otherwise. When the firing is complete, it is mounted in front of a mirror on a custom made powder coated aluminum frame.

This fused glass painting was inspired by a trip we made last fall to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Santa Fe is one of my favorite places to spend time. This piece is formed from clear colorless sheet glass, colored crushed glass bits called frit and flame pulled glass stringers which form the branches of the cottonwoods. This piece was fired three times, twice to get the deep color seen in the sunset as well as the mountains. The last firing is completed at a lower temperature so that I am left with some texture, which gives the piece a sense of depth. When the firing is complete, it is mounted in front of a mirror on glass posts in a black shadowbox frame.

These fused glass paintings are miniature versions of some of my larger pieces. They are available in both framed and unframed versions. Most of the pieces listed under the ​“Originals” on my website can be reduced in size to be a miniature. All are mounted on mirror and come with a stand, though the framed versions can also hang.

This fused glass painting provides a pleasant memory of a swing in fall. It is composed of clear, colorless sheet glass and colored crushed glass bits called frit. The oranges and reds are a brilliant combination of both transparent and opaque glasses, which when fired to a lower temperature, leave a texture on the surface which light catches on and creates a glittering surface as well as a sense of depth. When the firing is complete, it is mounted in front of a mirror on glass posts in a black shadowbox frame.
