I create pieces using spray paint on scratchboard. The process of spray painting is quick and chaotic. In contrast carving on scratchboard is a long and controlled process. This juxtaposition of chaos and control produces a very unique composition. Texture plays a key role in my work as it adds a strong level of depth. I also incorporate photos and found objects into my scratchboard work. I am inspired by geometry, organic forms and the abstract expressionism movement. I work intuitively and the layering of the spray paint often inspires the direction the piece takes including the emphasis, rhythm, movement, and balance within the work.
