Born in Tanzania and operating from Seattle, WA, Canadian designer Shamila Jiwa works with unusual gems and precious metals acquired from sustainable sources and family owned mines to create simple yet stunning jewels for the modern and discerning woman. Inspired by a colorful childhood growing up along the dramatic East African coast she would, on occasion accompany her father, a medical doctor to the local goldsmith to have special heirlooms commissioned. Years later, she'd embark upon a passionate career as a designer, and realize the seeds had long been planted. Deep appreciation for global design, culture and travel are inspirational mainstays in her execution of striking gems and precious metals into wearable art. Combining age-old techniques with modern-day stylistic elements the resulting jewels are contemporary and timeless whilst winking with clever, subtle, and luxurious details.
