When creating a hat or coat through a flat pattern technique, I first envision the shape and also the attitude of the garment—its persona—in my mind. My team then samples and perfects the construction to flatter different people’s personalities and shapes. Over my long career I have gravitated to classic fabrics and enjoy evoking nostalgia while keeping my designs both fresh and timeless. It is the skillful tailoring of my in-studio sewing team that brings the hat or coat to life with quality built into every stitch.
