Get to Know... Whitney Sharpe

10 . 16 . 2017

A graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design, Whitney Sharpe of The Latch Key handcrafts  sculpturally influenced ceramic jewelry and home decor.

One of a Kind:  Describe your work.

Whitney:  Every piece of ceramic jewelry and home decor is lovingly made individually and finished with specially formulated glazes.

One of a Kind:  How did you get started?

Whitney:  I have been working with clay since I was a child.  I have a degree in textiles and always imagined myself working in the fashion industry.  After moving to San Francisco and working with other artists, I realized it was time for me to venture out on my own and have no aesthetic limits.

One of a Kind:  If you weren't an artist, what would you be?

Whitney:  Ha!  There is no other option.  If I had to choose, art therapy would be one avenue or continuing my education and teaching at the collegiate level is another option.  I could never imagine not being in the business of creating.

One of a Kind:  What inspires you?

Whitney:  Architecture is on the top of my list.  I find inspiration from the smallest details and enjoy translating that into wall hangings and then reflecting that back into my jewelry.

Whitney makes her debut at the One of Kind Holiday Show this December.  Make sure to visit her at The Latch Key.
