Amy Shepsman's exuberant Flaca Jewelry is inspired by architecture around New York City and different textiles, textures, and other organic matter.
One of a Kind: Why did you start your Flaca Jewelry line?
Amy: After working in both the entry level base jewelry world and then the high end luxury jewelry world, I felt there was a great void between the two. I wanted to fill the niche and allow women quality and innovative design, without breaking the bank.
One of a Kind: What will you be bringing to the Spring show?
Amy: Our entire tassel collection and new pieces for Spring. Each silk tassel is hand-wrapped. We can customize colors and pieces for every client while they wait.
One of a Kind: If you weren't an artist, what would you be?
Amy: I can't imagine doing anything else. I love the hustle!
One of a Kind: What inspires you?
Amy: I'm inspired everyday! Places, food, people... New York is an awesome place to be a young entrepreneur.
I went to Thailand and Cambodia on my honeymoon. Talk about inspiration! My entire Fringe Benefits collection was based off of the incredible tapestries and colors we saw.
One of a Kind: Since we're celebrating Spring, what do you love most about the season?
Amy: Being able to spend more time outside.
One of a Kind: What do you do on a rainy Spring day?
Amy: Movies and clean!
One of a Kind: Cubs, White Sox or other?
Amy: Obviously Cubbies after this past year but I grew up on Long Island so Yankee blood runs deep in my veins!
